"Top Tips from The Sleep Doula" - Canadian Family Magazine

This was a tough topic to illustrate as I had no idea what a "sleep doula" was when I was given the assignment. After some research and reading the copy for the article I came up with two sketches.

They liked the idea in the first one but asked to replace the hand with a lovey (a small stuffed animal) as sleep doula's believe in teaching the child to self-sooth and sleep on their own. So I replaced the hand with a stuffed bunny but was then asked to remove the blanket, as blankets are a SID's risk, and to add clothes to the baby as the piece was for a fall issue.

This illustration was just done for an article in Canadian Family Magazine's summer issue about a mom who lost 80 pounds while on mat leave.  They wanted something strong but lighthearted and needed to convey that improving your health is a struggle and a journey so they didn’t want the woman to look too fit and perfect.   I sent in three sketches and they approved my favourite of the three which is always nice.
